Marketing Advice from Steve Jobs

By on August 31, 2010

In this great video, Steve Jobs, arguably one of the best marketers that has ever walked the planet, talks about marketing.  He discusses the impact that the core values of an organization should have on the marketing message.  He also unveils a new marketing campaign, the now legendary “Think Different” series of commercials.

It’s amazing to watch this thing and realize that he’s talking about a company that just building computers.  He seems like he’s preaching and vision casting to me.  He’s talking about nothing less than changing the world!

Pastors, I think there are two things to learn here.  First, passion motivates people and moves mountains.  Jobs’ passion in this clip makes me want to go work for Apple right now!  I bet you were motivated too.  Second, our marketing efforts should be so much more than just service times and series names.  We need to consider our own core values and shape our marketing and branding efforts accordingly.

Take a look and let me know how you think these ideas apply to pastors, churches, and ministries.

Oh yeah, he’s wearing shorts too which is sort of strange and I guess…different.
