Is It a Book, an iPhone, or a Wallet? Yes.
The design gurus over at Twelve South have done it again with their new BookBook for iPhone.
At first glance, this product just seems like a cool case for the iPhone. Actually, to be specific, it looks like an uber cool, real leather case for the iPhone 4. Just go ahead and admit it. The vintage book vibe of this case is almost irresistible.
The real kicker, however, is that this thing is a wallet too. It’s got a clear slot for your ID as well as two slots to hold cards. There’s also a vertical slot for cash and receipts. Very nice.
The case is designed with easy access to the controls on your iphone. The mute switch is exposed and there are volume up and down button spots on the leather. To actually make a call, you just fold the front flap back around while talking. The site says that holding the phone this way is “entirely natural” but that judgement would, of course, be best reserved for the person using it.
The big glaring omission of the design of the beautiful BookBook looks to be a lack of any sort of hole on the back for the camera/flash. Most people use the camera features on their iPhones a great deal so this could be a deal breaker for most. It all boils down to how hard it is to remove the phone from the case to use the camera. If that’s a hassle, the usability, and desirability, of the case drops at least 80%.
This product might not be for everyone but for someone that’s looking to minimize what they carry around with them on a daily basis this could be perfect.
At $59.99 the case isn’t cheap but it seems to be well made and it is certainly very unique. See all the images and learn all the details here.
