Friend or Frenemy? Facebook Unfriending Stats

0 Comments 04 January 2012

Facebook is an interesting place.  When it started the goal was to befriend as many people as possible and finding friends there was a fun experience.

Then, something happened.  The number of people on the site exploded and with that growth came the experience of being friended by someone from your long past that you probably didn’t want to rediscover.  Still, as a polite gesture, you friended back.  Over time, you did this more and more and then one day you woke up and realized that you were friends with a lot of people that weren’t actually friends.

At some point, you either started unfriending people or at least you seriously considered it.

The Emerging Unfriending Trend

Unfriending is getting to be a large social trend and the folks over at NM Incite have released a very interesting infographic that gives the stats on why people friend and unfriend people on Facebook.  It also gives a little insight on how men use Facebook as opposed to how women use it.
