The Church of Kopimism

0 Comments 05 January 2012

According to this MSNBC article, a Swedish group that pushes for digital piracy has been awarded government approval to become an “official church.”

This group, which gets it’s name from the Swedish word for “copyme”, has been trying for over a year to get the church registered with the government.

The church says on it’s site…

…information is holy and copying is a sacrament. Information holds a value, in itself and in what it contains, and the value multiplies through copying. Therefore, copying is central for the organisation and its members.

This sort of thing makes me very sad.  It is a mockery of good churches everywhere as well as the important work that they do.

I fear more of this sort of thing is on the way.

What do you think?

I've been a senior pastor for over twenty years and a techie for longer than that. My first computer was a TRS-80. How's that for tech cred? You can follow me on twitter at @tonymccollum.
