Netflix “Just for Kids” Comes to the iPad

1 Comment 08 October 2012

Netflix has just released the an update for their app that adds the “Just for Kids” option.  This option is designed with kids 12 years and under in mind.

Once enables, this option makes the navigation visual and easy to maneuver.  The categories also make sense to kids and there’s even a scrolling bar of characters at the top so kids can choose the “star” they want to see like Dora or Elmo.

Most importantly this will only show age appropriate options to your kids.

Check out this video from Netflix to see it in action.

You can download the app via iTunes for free here.

This is a cool idea and we already use it on the WII for our boys. The only thing that I wish that they would provide is some sort of password protection to leave the “Just for Kids” area. I say that because if most kids are like mine, then they are curious about all of the cool buttons and options that they see and they begin to explore. This can take them out of the “kid’s zone” and then allow them to see the not so kid friendly portion of Netflix. – Either way though, I do like the idea of creating a “kid friendly” section!
