Pressgram

I’m sure you’ve heard of Instagram by now.  (If not, please go back to tending your horses and livestock.)  What you might have missed, however, is that Pressgram launched this past week to rave reviews.

Pressgram is an alternative to Instagram that is distinctive in that it allows you to retain complete control of your photos, as well the traffic generated by those photos.

While Instagram is busy driving people to their app, or web interface, Pressgram allows you to publish your photos on Pressgram itself but also on your own WordPress-powered site too.

Couple this with the fact that Instagram has already announced that ads are coming to it’s service, along with who knows what kind of service agreements, and it’s easy to see why Pressgram has huge potential to continue to grow at an amazing rate.

Lots of photographers are already making the jump due to worries over the legal ownership rights to the photos posted to Instagram.  With Pressgram you’re guaranteed to always own your data.

Many earlier adopters are also making the switch.

The app itself is very intuitive.  It offers a great set of free filters as well as standard sharing capabilities to notify your friends on Twitter and Facebook about your new photos.

My advice is to go and grab your preferred user name now.  My hunch is that this is going to be a big winner in the weeks and months to come.  (You can find me there @tonymccollum.)

You can download the iPhone app for free here.  (An android app is in development.)

If you host your own WordPress blog you’ll also be interested in the Pressgram plugin.  It’s not absolutely essential but it adds some nice features.  If you download it for free here.
