Chase Jarvis says that the best camera is the one you have with you and if you’re anything like me the one you have with you the most is your iPhone camera. If that’s you, I’ve got good news. Your best camera is about to get a lot better!
The fine folks over at hipstamatic have produced an absolutely amazing app that will have you taking some really cool and hip looking photos in no time. I’ve been playing with this app for a week now and I’m absolutely amazed at the results you can get with this thing. I can’t believe it’s only $2.
The charm of this app, beyond just the brilliant photos it takes, is that the interface feels like an old school film camera. You can select your “film”, you can select your “lens” and you can select your “flash” too. Obviously, these are all just settings but the app feels like an old camera and experimenting with everything can become quit addictive. Don’t worry though, you don’t even really have to know what you’re doing to get great shots. Just start snapping shots and you’ll love what you get back. Trust me, you’ll love it.
The app even allows you to upload your photos to facebook or flickr on the fly as you take them. It’s really almost like having a very cool, vintage polariod camera that allows you to share the fun.
If you want to see what this app can do in the real world, check out the public hipstamatic Flickr group.
The fun doesn’t stop there because you can buy other virtual lenses, films and flashes from hipstatmatic to mod your camera like crazy. The creative possibilities are endless.
You can visit the hipstamatic site here or buy the app directly from itunes here.
Enjoy!

Hipstamatic is cool. I also reviewed 10 other iPhone photography apps here:

Great list. We’re planning on reviewing some of those apps too.
