It’s Time to Upgrade Your Handshake
When you meet someone and want to exchange contact info what do you do? You don’t hand them a business card, do you? Come on, dude. Business cards are SO last century. Plus, they’re problematic at best. The info is hardly ever completely current and then the poor slob you give it to has to sit down and enter the data by hand into his or her system.
The makers of Bump came up with an elegant solution a while back with their iPhone app and it has been a huge success. Recently, however, they’ve upgraded the app to version 2 and now it’s a game changer. This app has firmly moved from nice little unitasking utility to an absolute must-have app.
What’s new? Well, Bump still lets you share contact info with others simply by bumping your phones together like before but now you can share a lot more than just basic contact data.
With Bump 2.o, you can share…
Calendars: Just bump phones and you can now look at each others calendars. You can also schedule a mutual event and save it to your calendar.
Contacts: Not only can you share your contact information, you can also share an unlimited number of your contacts with others.
Photos: The old version of Bump let you share a contact photo of yourself but now you can share any photo that’s on your phone with someone. You don’t have to mail your images back and forth. Just view and save. Of course, you get to choose which photos are sharable and which aren’t.
Social Networks: This is where the new Bump really shines. You can now add your Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn info and share it. After you bump with someone, they can opt to follow you on any of these services without having to dig around the sites to find you. Beyond that, you can also use Bump to search for any mutual friends you might have on any of these services.
Plus “Chat”: Another big change is that you can now use the “chat” feature to continue sharing info with your fellow bump user even long after the initial bump has happened.
Check out this video to see some of the app in action.
Again, this app has now become a must-have app for the iPhone. (Android users, there’s also a 1.0 version available for you and the Bump folks promise that at 2.0 is in the works.)
You can download the app via iTunes here or you can check out the Bump site here.
