The Magazine You’ve Always Dreamed Of
Flipboard is an amazing new app for the iPad. It basically takes all your social media streams like Facebook and Twitter and creates one beautifully styled digital magazine out of them. You simply flip pages with your finger to see item after item of stuff you’re truly want to read. (Well, that’s true except for some stuff on Facebook that you’d never want to read.)
The interface is gorgeous. The styling and formatting is truly amazing considering it’s pulling all that stuff in from basic tweets and status updates. You can tell that a lot of thought, logic and design smarts went into this app. It really must be seen to be appreciated.
I’m also surprised by the amount of interactivity that’s been built into this app. Usually apps like this are just viewers but this app lets you actually respond to the content. For instance, you can reply to tweets. This is huge because no matter how great the viewer is you’ll tend to stop using it if you have to go to another program to respond.
You can also dig down into the content. For instance, when you open a tweet, you’ll see who else has retweeted that tweet. (Does that sentence make sense?) Anyway, it’s all done very nicely.
There is some bad news, however. The app has exploded since yesterday and the massive influx of new users has overwhelmed the servers at Flipboard. They reportedly worked hard all night to get more servers online to handle the waves of new users but things still seem a little sluggish right now. I’m sure that will all level off soon though.
Here’s a quick video that shows this beauty in action.
If you own an iPad, do yourself a favor and check out Flipboard. (iTunes Download Link) Then come back here and let us know what you think.
