Grab Yourself Before Someone Else Does
The About.Me site is getting a lot of buzz these days. I mean a ton of buzz. The service is still in a closed beta but already people are going nuts about it. What is it? Well, it’s a “custom splash page and personal analytics dashboard.”
To be more specific, it’s a site that allows you to have a very cool, online business card-like, splash page that directs people to your various online accounts like facebook, flickr, twitter, and the like.
Honestly, there are a ton of sites like this that have launched in recent memory but this one is different for a few reasons.
First, the domain is THE domain name to have for this sort of thing. About.me is pretty strong. Imagine your page being at http://about.me/bubba. (Assuming your name is Bubba, of course.)
Second, the people behind this site seem to have a lot of buzz and backing behind them. Seriously, there are a lot of big names talking this thing up right now which leads me to believe that this site is actually going to reach critical mass when it launches. It might just become something of an online directory.
Third, the site also offers analytics to let you see what the traffic to your name is like and what they’re clicking on. This is truly unique for a site of this type and something that’s been sorely missing in this space.
All of this to say, that I think it might a really good idea to go to the site and reserve your name now. It can’t hurt and if the site explodes once it’s launched (like many are predicting) then you’ll be glad you own your own name there.
You can grab yourself here.
