Two Great Service Planning Sites
Planning services, selecting songs and schedule volunteers can be daunting tasks. The problems only get worse as multiple services and multiple locations enter the picture. Thankfully, there are two great sites that can help you out. One site has been around for a while and one site is relatively new.
Planning Center Online
In many ways, Planning Center Online (http://planningcenteronline) is the gold standard in this niche category. I’m not 100% percent sure they invented the category but they certainly were the first ones to popularize it and get it in to the mainstream.
This veteran service hasn’t been sitting on their laurels either. The site is continually improved and innovations like their accompanying iPhone app have kept the service fresh and up to date.
PCO was originally all about just planning the service. Later, it became a lot more volunteer centric but you still get the feel that it works better for the planners than for those doing the leg work.
All in all, it’s an outstanding service that many churches love.
Elvanto
Elvanto (http://elvanto.com) is the new kid on the block. The service hails from Australia and packs quite a punch. It’s sophisticated and elegant at the same time.
It’s clear that this service is designed with more of an eye towards the volunteers themselves. It has a robust blogging system built into the site that allows for a lot of communication with all the folks that will be making the service happen.
Although the site just came out of beta, it seems to have a very mature feature set. Like PCO, it can handle multiple service times at multiple locations easily. Just like PCO, you can select songs for the services and assign different team members or entire departments to each service.
To get a better idea of this new site’s features, check out this video…
Which service is best? Well, that depends on what you’re looking for. PCO obviously has the most mature feature set and the iPhone app is pretty awesome. Elvanto seems to have a better built in communication system though. If communication (or over communicating) with your volunteers is a priority for you then Elvanto is probably going to work best for you. Either way, a little healthy competition in this category is a good thing, IMHO.
Neither service is free* but they both offer free trials so check them and let us know what you think.
(*Elvanto actually offers a free version but it only supports 10 volunteers.)

We are currently using Planning Center. It has been great for us. I’m always open to change, but for now, PCO has been great!
Hello Andy,I’m going for a long shot here, but I hope you can help me. I need someone that can get arnoud and ask a few questions. I’m trying to find two dear friends who last known address was Muscat. I don’t have any last names and I know there are a lot of people in Muscat, but, as communities tend to stay together, perhaps you could, in your spare time, help me in locating these ladies. The first lady goes by the name of Marcy (or Marcie). She is / was the manager of the dining facility within and without the American Embassy. She married an Omani while in the US and moved back there with her husband and took the job at the Embassy. We were dear friends while we lived there in Muscat in 01-02 (my husband is retired USAF). When we leftshe gave me tons of great recipes from the embassy kitchens but I completely failed to get her address. Why do we always do that? The other person was a young couple that lived in our servants quarters. Sujeva and Adjantha from Sri Lanka. Sujeva was my housekeeper but they were both so much more than that. There were such a wonderful Christian couple. They had children band Kandy, Sri Lanka, and we scrimped and saved every penny we had to send them home on a vacation they hadn’t had in years. It was sooo worth the financial struggle to see their faces when we gave them money for their tickets home.I’ve contacted the American Embassy’s public affairs office and security office trying to locate Marcy but have never heard from them. I’ve also scoured every picture and video searching for a familiar face that might bring a name to mind but to no avail.Sujeva came back to Kentucky with my two daughters on vacation and stayed with my mother- and father-in-law. They also fell in love with her. I’ve known a lot of people but few with such a wonderful heart as Sujeva and her husband, Adjantha.I do know that many women from Sri Lanka who work as household servants maintain a fairly close knit community. Perhaps if you could ask arnoud for me and find someone who is in the know ?I don’t hold out much hope of finding them but taking one step is betting than standing still. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.I will leave my e-mail address as well as my Facebook profile name just in case you find someone to pass my information along too.Thank you for any assistance you can provide.God Bless!!!Margaret (Maggie) HallMargaret Skinner Hall (Facebook name)
