Add Some Style to Wikipedia

By on August 18, 2010

It’s amazing what a little style can add to the usability and enjoyment of a web site.  Unfortunately, Wikipedia has always been long on information and little short of style but the folks over at Cooliris have swooped in to save the day with their new Discover app for the iPad.

There are a lot of apps out there that reformat Wikipedia content in some fashion but this one is probably the best out there by a mile.  It takes all the wiki topics and formats them like some beautiful magazine.  You simply won’t believe how great it all looks and how much more enjoyable the entire experience is.  And, it’s free!

Not only does this app look great but it’s got some technical chops too.  For instance, it only pulls down the information you need as you need it so it seems very responsive for an app of this type.  Also, it’s very iPad savvy.  The navigation is touch-based and very intuitive. For instance, to pull up the search box you simply swipe your finger down or to start over you just shake the iPad.

Check out this great iPad app in the iTunes store here or you can view the developers site here.
